Talk by Rachel Elnaugh, a lesson in how to go from nasty to nice!

Last night I had the pleasure of going to a very good talk at the Hallmark Hotel in Bournemouth. It was hosted by Sue Stone and the speaker was Rachel Elnaugh of Dragons Den fame. Anyone who watched the first series with Rachel in it would be excused for thinking of her as a hard nosed business woman who took no prisoners and was known for generally being a bit of a bitch in the office.

I went along to the talk because I had watched with interest her fall from grace, enjoyed enormously her book 'Business Nightmares' and wanted to see what would happen next as she re-branded herself as a business mentor and something of a metaphysical guru...

The lady herself mingled unassumingly among the guests in a dressed down, relaxed style that I would not have associated with her former persona. When she came to speak she was charming, quietly confident, open and obviously passionate and knowledgeable about her spiritual journey. It was a risk in a way because many people were there to hear her speak about business and not spiritual matters, but she drifted into in seamlessly and even some of the more uncomfortable members of the audience became interested and engaged with the subject at hand...

The evening was meant to be based around prosperity and the 3 Keys to Abundance but she took the mood of the people present and went with the flow so that we covered more than was on the advertised programme.

Rachel talked about 'flow' and how abundance is not about having a great reservoir of cash, but having the ability to dip into the stream of abundance whenever you needed it. Having a constant supply is better than a pot that could eventually run dry. She explained the 'New Consciousness' as moving through the 3rd Dimension of a world that is consumer based to 4th Dimension which was more spiritual and the 5th Dimension of oneness. She drove home the idea that to be successful in business in today's changed view of how business should be carried out, you needed to have one foot in the 3rd Dimension and another in the 4th. It is all very well living in the spiritual place of contentment but if you do not stay rooted to the current reality you will end up poor as a church mouse. It also means that because of the shift in consciousness we are experiencing you are less likely to be successful now unless you are willing to embrace a more spiritual outlook in business.

She also talked about how money is neutral but that we all place huge expectations and emotion on money that can get in the way of us having it. Your understanding of the relationship you have with money is key if you want to see how you can have more of it. What is your relationship with money? Do you feel negative about it or positive? Do you see it as the root of all evil or the way to a brighter and better future for all? It has no emotion itself, you put it there and what you put out will come back. Feel negative about money and negative monetary experiences will come to you because that is what you will attract. Change your feelings about money and change your experiences of it.

She also talked about freedom (one of the most wished for things) and how real freedom was not being able to sit on a beach all day doing nothing with your life but it was being able to spend all your time on your soul purpose, on your passions, on your loves. That to me is a perfect description of what we are all striving for in our Quitting the 9-5 dream - being able to spend all our time on our passions and our soul purpose.

This is one lady who has reinvented herself in a completely new way in a new direction that is seemingly at odds with how everyone thought of her. If she can do it (and she had several failure on the way), then we ALL can. Sometimes things switch, almost overnight and this was certainly the case for her in the way that both successes and failures happened, so keep going and see where you can end up...

Rachel Elnaugh as she was in her Dragons Den days:

How you are more likely to find her now:

So what is your relationship with money? What is freedom to you? Do you want it enough? Are you placing enough value on your own dreams? Do you have a story to share about how you turned your life around?
